They Could Have Drowned; Bodyboarding Trio in Creek Lucky to Escape with Their Lives

THE Beerwah community was breathing a sigh of relief yesterday after three children who went bodyboarding in floodwaters were found safe.

The boys, who had been reported missing about noon, were initially spotted hanging from tree branches over Coochin Creek.

By 2pm, firefighters, police, State Emergency Service volunteers and the boys' friends and families had mobilised and a concerted search effort involving boats and a helicopter was well under way.

Local teens Starr Hendrick and Julia Brooks attend Beerwah State High School with the boys.

"I just hope they're okay," 14-year-old Julia told the Daily after one of the boys had been found but two were still missing.

Moments later, news reached the congregation that all three were safe.

Auxiliary fire captain Luke Chapman said he was delighted the boys had been found as it had started to look "very grim".

He said numerous witnesses had seen the boys clinging to trees and called 000. …
