Ergon Boosts Staff to Power Up City

ERGON would boost its workforce in the Rockhampton and Yeppoon areas to more than 800 field staff, based on an assessment of the damage from Cyclone Marcia that left more than 50,000 customers powerless.

Crews hoped to have the backbone of the network in Rockhampton and Yeppoon -- the substations and the high-voltage lines between them -- fully operational late yesterday.

Ergon's corporate communications manager Rod Rehbein wasn't providing specific timelines for suburbs to be restored yesterday, but said Ergon was working as hard as possible to progress supply quickly to as many customers as it could.

As the company manages its ability to meet customers' expectations, patience was the key.

A clearer picture would emerge once crews had a better understanding of the task at hand.

"We will take those easy wins," Mr Rehbein said, referring to less complex repair jobs that delivered power to many highly-populated areas.

Mr Rehbein said it was far too early to even begin estimating the cost of repairs. …
