Staff Numbers Grow as Anniversary Ticks Over

TWELVE months, 15,000 patients, 12,000 procedures and one brand new hospital.

The Sunshine Coast University Hospital has heralded a major milestone, reaching its one-year anniversary.

A surge in activity at the Kawana-based hospital has prompted a staff-recruitment drive.

Twenty-four new nurses have started work at the private hospital, boosting staff numbers to more than 600.

Mayor Mark Jamieson says the growth is a sign of things to come as the Oceanside Kawana Health Precinct comes to life.

The Sunshine Coast University Public Hospital is a hive of activity as construction nears its late-2016 deadline. The public hospital will open with 450 beds, growing to a 738-bed facility by 2021.

Once the two hospitals are open side by side, staffing numbers will exceed 6000.

"This hospital (Sunshine Coast Private University) now employs 620 staff - that's 620 new jobs on the Sunshine Coast, which clearly will have a major impact on the economy not just in this immediate area, but right across the Coast," Cr Jamieson said. …
