CAVS MISS THE CUT; Loss to Marist Brothers Ends Finals Hopes

AN upset loss to Marist Brothers has cost the Casino Cavaliers any real chance of qualifying for the Far North Coast LJ Hooker League cricket semi-finals.

Alstonville's remaining hopes were also shattered when they narrowly lost to Ballina Bears.

Cudgen firmed as premiership favourites with a strong win over Tintenbar-East Ballina while Lennox Head defeated Pottsville.

Cavaliers captain Sam Irvine lamented the lack of application in batting and fielding which resulted in his team being bowled out for 164 in reply to Brothers' 8-216 at Oakes Oval, Lismore, in the round of one-dayers on Saturday.

"We got comprehensively beat," Irvine said.

"It was probably one of our worst performances, right when we needed to play well.

"Things just didn't go well from the start and it snowballed."

Brad Cleaver (84) and Luke Hamshaw (71) set up the Brothers win with a 103-run partnership, then Jared Seiffert (3-29) and Brendan Mitchell (2-14) did the damage with the ball. …
