GAZETTE writer Anthony Vickers takes a look at the biggest talking points of the match: IF ANYONE needed a goal it was Kike. And especially at the Riverside, to remind Boro fans of his ability.

The technicallygifted Spaniard has a lovely first touch, uses his body well to shield the ball and can twist and turn his way through a posse of defenders and somehow squeeze or smuggle the ball past them.

You certainly wouldn't fancy playing against him in a fiveaside game. You'd never get the ball off him.

His holdup play 30 yards out is superb. And he can he bring the ball down and spot a teammate in a good position and find them, which makes him an important player "in and around" the box.

But Kike was boss Aitor Karanka's big ticket summer buy, and for PS2.7m you expect to get plenty of bang for your buck for that in the Championship.

He wasn't brought into be an effective deep holdup player - although - he plays that role very well - and in many respects is the Key link man in making the Karanka system work. …
