I AM woman, hear me roar.

These may be the lyrics of a popular 1970s song, but the words still ring true and continue to motivate women across the world.

In the lead-up to International Women's Day on March 8, Lyndal Erbacher, Cerran Fawns and Wendy Barnes answered the call to share their thoughts on parenthood, career and life.

As a mum, Mrs Erbacher, 26, of Diddillibah, is focused on making sure daughter, Matilda, 21 months, has good role models.

She said her own childhood was full of great female role models who had helped empower, educate and inspire her, and she wanted the same for Matilda.

"It is important to have healthy role models," the Bli Bli and District Rural Fire Brigade secretary said.

"Growing up, my mum was my role model. It tends to be your mum who is your first female role model."

Maroochy Waterwatch chief executive Cerran Fawns believes empowering women starts with education.

She said while some women chose not to pursue a career and opted to raise a family, it was important for them to know they had options. …
