Chance to Start for Our GNR Millionth Finisher

THE millionth person to nish the Great North Run has been chosen as the starter of the event in New Zealand that rst inspired it.

Tracey Cramond, an NHS worker from Darlington, became the millionth person to cross the Great North Run nish line in South Shields during last year's race.

As part of her prize, she has been own by race organisers Nova to New Zealand to take part in the Round the Bays event in Auckland, the race that inspired then athlete Brendan Foster to set up the Great North Run in 1981. Ms Cramond knew she would be tak-tak ing part in the ve-mile Round the Bays race, but on arrival in New Zealand she was thrilled to be asked to the ocial starter.

She said: "It was a really special request for an ordinary girl like me. "is race is going to be about embracing the fun and people and the whole experience."

While in New Zealand, Ms Cramond will be meeting up with relatives living close by, while her father, Roy Liddell, will be accompanying her and then ying to Australia to see family members he has not seen since the 1960s. …
