MORE than 100 people have signed an online petition against plans to expand a retail park.

The Crown Estate has put together a scheme to demolish the former Travelodge hotel opposite the Silverlink park, off the Coast Road, in North Tyneside, and replace it with four retail units.

It is proposed one of the units will be taken up by a flagship Next Home and Garden store.

The application, to be discussed by North Tyneside Council tomorrow, has attracted objections on the grounds the development would harm the regeneration of Wallsend and North Shields town centres.

The North Shields Chamber of Trade and NewRiver Retail, who own Wallsend's Forum Shopping Centre and The Beacon Centre in North Shields, are among those against the scheme.

In addition, a petition has been started online and 107 people have signed it.

They say experts are predicting an annual loss of PS1. …
