NORTHUMBRIA University can make four BUCS finals this weekend as basketball and volleyball approach the business end of their respective seasons.

David Goodchild's men's and women's volleyball teams turn their attention to university competition after retaining their Super 8s League titles earlier this month.

Both sides will play in a roundrobin tournament at Bournemouth's LEAF Academy aiming to make Sunday's semi-finals.

The winners of the Final Four ties will then progress to the showpiece BUCS Big Wednesday clash on March 25 with the overall title up for grabs.

Goodchild said: "Our aim is to make both finals and we have been working hard all week to give ourselves the best possible chance."

Northumbria's women have been drawn to face hosts Bournemouth, Cambridge and St Andrews in Group B with fierce rivals Durham University likely to top Group A. The men must overcome East London, UCL and Cambridge in order to top their group and guarantee the easier semi-final tie on Sunday. …
