Fighter Stakes It All on Mackay Contest; Leaving Job and Travelling to Thailand for Month of Intensive Training Pays Dividends with Fight Result

KARL Paterson quit his job for his latest Mixed Martial Arts fight, travelling to Thailand for a month to perfect his skills before heading to Mackay for the bout.

It proved worth it, the Gladstone Mixed Martial Arts fighter returning with a win.

Described by his coach, Rob McIntyre, as dominant, Paterson felt good in the cage getting the decision.

"I controlled the fight all three rounds, but it was a hard fight," he said.

The decision to take two months of full training going into the fight was a big one for Paterson.

But it was not his first time heading overseas to train in the sport.

"That was my fourth time going to Thailand to train," he said.

Now he is back in Gladstone searching for both his next match up and a new job. And while he hopes employment is not far away and is not keen on again doing the trip on the ferry to Curtis Island every day, his MMA schedule is not in his hands. …
