Readers Slam Bid to Ban Boxing after Death

Article excerpt

Health authorities are calling for the sport of boxing to be banned following the death of Toowoomba boxer Braydon Smith. Yes or no: should boxing be banned?

PEOPLE die on the road daily, should we all stop driving?

SANDRA GREEN

PEOPLE die competing in car racing, horse racing, rugby league, martial arts, climbing, water sports and even running. Every sport has potential risks. Boxing is not my thing, but honestly, are we going to ban every sport that is linked to death or serious injury?

TANIA MCLAUGHLIN

LET'S ban all sports then if that's the case it's was a freak accident, just like Phil Hughes the cricket star. You can die by just crossing the road. NO. YOU sign rights to your life away when you decide to do a dangerous sport. Did they ban cricket when that famous player got killed being hit in the temple with a ball? No. Don't be ridiculous.

JOHN PAUL

LIVING life is not safe. Hold up, everyone stop living.

BRETT WILSON

HOW ridiculous. Soon we won't be allowed to have any kids playing sport because they might be hurt.

ANDREW WALLACE

SO DO we ban cricket, motor racing, so on and so on, very unfortunate for a kid that loved his sport. R.I.P.

MICHAEL REID

BAN horse racing....oh, it makes too much money does it, best not do that.

GRAHAM ISON

LET'S all live in fear and not do anything ban all sport because it's dangerous (sarcasm intended).

ROSE BLACK

HOLY dam one person dies (and I am extremely sorry for the loss of this extremely talented young man and I mean no disrespect) but you want to ban the sport, one person out of the thousands that compete, talk about stupid. …
