A SON of the founder of Greggs the baker has made his rst appearance at Newcastle Crown Court charged with 26 child sex oences.

Colin Gregg is alleged to have carried out a series of indecent assault on boys between 1963 and 1991.

e 73-year-old, of Home Steadings, Gosforth, Newcastle, appeared at the city's crown court for a brief preliminary hearing.

None of the charges were put to him but his legal team have previously indicated Gregg will plead not guilty.

Judge Paul Sloan QC set a timetable for the case and Gregg was further released on bail until his next appearance in June.

A provisional trial date was listed for April 4, 2016.

e alleged oences relate to nine complainants and are said to have taken place between January 1963 and December 1991 in County Durham, Newcastle and Seghill and Alnmouth, both in Northumberland.

Gregg was formerly a director at the baked goods giant, established by his father in the 1930s.

In the 1970s, he worked as a children's ocer with social services before becoming a teacher. …
