IT has been a case of "Back to the Fu ture" down the corridors of power at St James' Park in recent weeks.

For all the talk of a head coach in the immediate aftermath of Alan Pardew's departure, there came a time when planning for the 2015/16 season had to get under way.

e powers that be are understood to have had sympathy for head coach John Carver, Steve Stone and Andy woodman after injuries - combined with the suspensions of two players who should know better in Fabricio Coloccini and Papiss Cisse - have crippled the Toon squad ahead of the season's run-in.

Carver was asked if he felt "hard done by" with the circumstances aecting his own hopes of winning the job on a full-time basis.

A few more defeats for Carver and things could look bleak.

But the United head coach shrugged o the issues yesterday and preferred to look forward, indicating he would battle on with the 13 t outeld players he has at his disposal and continue to play apart in shaping the club's future.

Despite a clamour for a new head Coach to be appointed next season, Carver indicated managing director Lee Charnley and chief scout Graham Carr have been drawing the battle lines for next season.

It is believed there has been a slight switch in terms of scouting missions, with a little less focus on France's Ligue 1 and a little more attention to Spain's La Liga.

With Spanish clubs potentially having to sell some of their prize assets this summer, some closed-season shopping could take place in sunnier climes.

Whatever the future holds, Carver has had a say in it all.

e club told fans at the recent supporter forum that they hadn't restarted thesearch for a new head coach, and they may not if Carver convinces them he is the man.

Yesterday, he spoke of "work behind he spoke of "work behind Y the scenes" because threadbare squad is in dire need of change.

Carver said: "I've spoken to Lee Charnley and he has spoken to Mike Ashley.
