Treble Bid for Big Pat; Vet Happy to Bow out with Win

PAT Laws has two A grade cricket premierships for Brothers under his belt and the 47-year-old thinks a third would just about do him.

The all-rounder played in the first premiership for the club back in 1992-93.

He then waited 10 years to notch a second premiership in 2002-03. The drought since then has been over a decade, long enough for Laws to hang up the batting gloves, only to return to the crease.

He has been mixing his efforts between reserves - where he has more titles - and A grade. His return to the top level this season has been motivated by long-term friend and player Mal Carlyon. "It was all Mal's fault," the hulking Laws said. "He asked me to make up some numbers one week and kept at me to keep playing."

Once he was cemented in the top side, Laws wanted to stay to help young players come through and be at their best. …
