LOCAL husband and wife will be bring a wide variety of indigenous art celebrating the beauty of the Australian central and western deserts to their new art gallery at the Marina.

The new Tjnkurpa (Chook-a-pah) art gallery will officially open next Friday, March 6.

This will be the first gallery the couple has opened, as husband Henry Woolf is a roof plumber by trade and formerly had a business out in Tennant Creek doing renovations and maintenance, his wife Carmel, the manager of Tennant Creek Childcare Centre.

Co-owner Carmel Woolf said the art had been collected by her husband, Henry, for almost 20 years from Alice Springs and Eumndi.

"He has a friend from a Eumindi gallery and it was through him that Henry grew to love this art," Mrs Woolf said.

"We've ended up with a collection so now we've decided to display it and possibly sell it rather than just have it rolled up."

Mrs Woolf said the couple decided to open the gallery after returning to Hervey Bay. …
