McNabb Ready for Rep Duty

AUSSIE RULES: Alana McNabb's football journey has been a whirlwind.

Only moving to Mackay from the football hotspot of Bendigo in January, McNabb's rise has been meteoric.

And it was all by chance for the 22-year-old physiotherapist.

"I was playing tennis with workmates and they were playing (Australian Football) on the field nearby and I went and said 'hi'," McNabb said.

Within a few weeks, McNabb's skill and leadership shone through at Eastern Swans and she became the club's captain -- a great effort considering she'd played only 22 matches before her move north

"It (leadership) is something I am getting used to," McNabb said. "We have a good structure at Swans."

Her ability caught the eye of selectors and McNabb will fly to the Gold Coast on Friday to play in the AFL Queensland Women's Gold Coast Suns versus Brisbane Lions academy match.

"It was a genuine surprise to be selected", McNabb said. …
