FOR the past week I have been back in my old stomping ground of Sydney.

I visit here every so often throughout the year, but with the talk of our beloved little historical hall and adjoining rail memorial being moved, I started to notice a lot more than I usually would around the city.

There is something to be said about the State Government's management of Sydney's heritage, and I really think our own local council can take a leaf out of their book.

As I walked around the city, I noticed a lot of new buildings and parklands that have been built around or featuring the structures of old.

Some of them even showcased the actual building, in celebration of its heritage and its connection to the land.

The mixture of old and new, modern and historical actually works wonderfully, if done well.

What little heritage Hervey Bay actually has, we should be looking at ways to appreciate it, not looking at ways to relocate or remove it altogether. …
