YOU don't start feeling the NSW Fire and Rescue Physical Aptitude Test (PAT) until you get to the three hose drags.

The PAT test is the final stage before NSW Fire and Rescue hopefuls get a letter of invitation to join NSW Fire and Rescue.

The PAT test and everything else you need to know about joining NSW Fire and Rescue will be explained at the open day at the Grafton Station on May 30.

When Maclean man Rory Weeks reaches the hose drag, he is starting to feel every kilo in the 35kgs of fire proof jacket, pants, fake oxygen tank, weighted shoes, helmet and smoke mask.

Every time he gets back to the start, he has more sweat on his face and less breath.

The hose drag is the fourth and last exercise of stage two and it looks like Mr Weeks won't make the 15-minute time limit for the stage. …
