ONLY one point separated Cudgen all-rounder Caleb Ziebell and Casino captain Sam Irvine when the Far North Coast LJ Hooker League cricket Player of the Year was announced.

In the end, Ziebell claimed the award on 20 points with five player-of-the match performances during the season.

Irvine was player-of-the-match three times with 19 points while Lennox Head all-rounder Andrew Lindsay was one point back in third.

All three players were named in the Team of the Year as selected by the umpires.

Irvine and Ziebell featured heavily at the LJ Hooker League presentation night at the Byron Bay Bowling Club.

Ziebell won the bowling and all-rounder award for his 694 runs and 33 wickets in the competition rounds.

He finished the season with 911 runs and 34 wickets after Cudgen beat Ballina Bears in the two-day final.

It was no surprise to see Cudgen players feature in awards throughout the night.

Craig Wilson and Jamie Wilson finished five and sixth respectively on Player of the Year points. …
