A commenter on Jacksonville.com responds to Times-Union Editor Frank Denton's column in Sunday Reason about the efforts of Cynthia Bioteau, the new president, to restore public trust in Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Interesting read, but the T-U should really do in-depth investigation about changes at FSCJ. These puff pieces do not reflect many internal changes at FSCJ.

For example, a review of vocational training will find that many of these programs are being changed into college credit courses. This forces those students who wish to take vocational training such as auto repair, welding and one day soon, cosmetology, to enroll in private schools for their training. In the long run, it costs the students about four times as much for their training.

But at least FSCJ looks good on the surface with all the four-year programs they are offering. Graduation rates and job placement rates may be in the toilet, but no matter. Administrators receive higher salaries and larger staffs, all at taxpayer expense, because of being a "Four Year School. …
