Kids Face a Long Walk; School Bus Drops Stops for 'Safety'

A SUDDEN change in a Tewantin school bus route will force some children to walk up to an extra seven kilometres home.

Buslink gave the children the note advising of the change on the last day of the school term, saying it would come into effect a week after school returned.

It said the bus would no longer stop at three stops on McKinnon Dr, Cooroibah, and would now stop at Illoura Pl.

The distance involved is more than five kilometres, and potentially further for children who had a long walk home from the original stop.

One dad, Clinton Lewis, said many parents were working and weren't available to ensure their children got to and from the stop safely.

"The bus has been doing that route for 16 years," Mr Lewis said.

"Now one bus driver says he can't do the turn safely and it has to be changed.

"Some children weren't even on the bus on the last day of school and their parents don't know of the change. …
