Horses Die in Stable Fire

ADEVASTATED owner has spoken of her heartbreak after hearing two of her horses were killed in a fire.

Jasmine Rawson's horses - 22-yearold thoroughbred Sasha and four-yearold cob Diesel - were among the five killed as a fire ripped through Coxgreen Stables, in Station Road, Houghton-le-Spring, some time between 4.30am and 5am on Monday.

It is believed the roof of the barn containing the stables collapsed following the fire.

After hearing the news on Monday Ms Rawson travelled to the scene.

Holding back tears she said: "This is devastating."

"I've had Sasha since I was 16, I'm 24 now.

"We've had horses since I was tiny. When we got the call I couldn't speak.

"I really don't think it will sink in until I can see them."

The carer, of Washington, said she used to enter Sasha into show jumping competitions while Diesel was at the beginning of a show jumping career. …
