MY WIFE and I went for a run at Kondalilla last week, but it was raining so the path was slippery and we had to watch our feet the whole time.

The trouble is, you don't go to Kondalilla to look at your feet or a muddy path.

You go to see the falls, the canopy, the palms and the views.

It's a jewel of the Sunshine Coast, but when you're running through it all you see is rocks.

Every now and then I'd stop. Mostly because I couldn't keep up with my wife, but also because I'd caught a glimpse of the view.

When I stopped and appreciated the beauty, I wondered how much beauty I'd missed in life for the same reason.

I suspect we're all the same - so focused on the path before us that we often fail to look up and appreciate where it's taking us.

There are good reasons for looking down, of course. …
