IMBIL can expect a restored tourist rail link to Gympie much sooner than expected, under a proposal announced yesterday by the heritage rail's ownership and management body, the Rattler Railway Company.

A representative told The Gympie Times yesterday the company also was considering a plan to remodel the town's former railway station as a heritage-based tourist attraction.

This would link with the State Government's plans to remodel the abandoned track from Imbil to Brooloo as a "rail trail" walking and cycling track.

But none of that can happen while the station grounds continue to be occupied by an unapproved golf course, the representative said.

Questioned about continuing tension over moves to dig up the golf course, which has been maintained by a voluntary community group for about 14 years, the representative said the golfers had no authority to be there and were remiss in not having public liability insurance.

Group members said they did not need insurance because they ere incorporated, but the Rattler representative said Section 70A of the Associations Incorporation Act required any association which had use of an area of land to take out such insurance and keep it current. …
