Country Rock Stars on Tap; New Direction for Live Music in Town

THE same artists who blew the socks off a crowd of thousands at the CMC Rocks music festival will be back at Ipswich in May.

Hotel Metropole manager Shanon McAuliffe is calling on some of the big guns of the thriving country rock world to bring the crowds in for Saturday nights at the Top of Town pub.

The Adam Eckersley Band will perform, along with supporting artist Seleen McAlister of Brisbane, at the first show on May 9.

Mr McAuliffe said the country gigs were just another taste of a variety of live music entertainment featured at the Metropole each week.

"With the country music we are trying something different," he said.

"We are testing the waters and seeing how it goes. The perception seems to be that there isn't a lot going on in Ipswich on a Saturday night.

"If people support this, then it will continue."

The Metropole is already a big supporter of local musicians, with jam nights staged on Thursdays in the beer garden to give amateur artists a chance to perform for a crowd. …
