Holden Grant a Huge Boost for Bears

AUSSIE rules in the Wide Bay received a boost when Maryborough's Bears were given $100,000 by Holden.

The Bears beat about 1600 entries in the Holden Home Grown Advantage Community Grants program.

On Thursday the once-struggling club became the first recipient of Holden's grant.

Bears vice-president Jason O'Brien said the grant would boost club morale and enable separate change rooms for male and female players.

"With a shortage of resources and no funding for adequate facilities over the years we've seen our female club members dwindle," O'Brien said.

"We're currently down to our last two female players, with a lack of privacy in the sheds a major contributor to this.

"It's important to the club to provide members with a safe and welcoming environment."

The new infrastructure is expected to benefit the whole community, with the club open to community groups and school sport teams. …
