Excelsior Apprentices Enter the World of Work

Excelsior Apprentices, Mohammed, Stacey and Joe THIS YEAR a record number of Excelsior Sixth Form College students received university offers. But its Excelsior's varied apprenticeship programmes that have proven just the job for many or our young people.

Stacey Gardner has been the Academy's Sports Apprentice since September 2014, and will soon add to her CV with a summer stint in the USA.

Stacey, 18, won the job after completing her studies at the College. Since then she's planned lessons, coached after-school activities, and supervised a ski trip to the French Alps.

"I didn't realise how much the teachers do," she said of her experience. "Excelsior staff have been a major help though when I started, I was constantly still calling them 'sir' and 'miss'."

Stacey - who said the best part of her job has been "the connection with the pupils," - is set to spend two months as a fitness leader and counsellor at a summer camp in Boston. …
