Royal Hotel Fined for Serving Drunk; Covert Officers See Disorderly Man Given More Liquor

A GYMPIE hotel was stung in court this week for supplying alcohol to a man who was so drunk he poured beer over his own head and slapped another patron.

The Royal Hotel, under C Breeze Resort, was charged after a covert inspection by the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation observed the offence in August last year.

Bar attendant Karlee Lynette Dennien, who served the man, also appeared in Gympie Magistrates Court on Thursday, on a charge of supplying alcohol to an intoxicated person.

A submission to the court described the undercover officers' observations onAugust 1. It noted that a man who had been unsteady on his feet, loud and aggressive and generally lacking co-ordination and balance seated himself at the bar.

Dennien served the man two shots of tequila within a few minutes of each other and, later, a schooner of beer.

CCTV footage showed the man tripping over furniture, slapping a man in the face, lifting a woman off the ground, falling into other customers and generally acting aggressively at the Mary St hotel. …
