Urunga Too Good for New-Look Sirens

A NEW look could not prevent a narrow loss for Grafton United Sirens in round six of NCF Women's Premier League on Saturday.

The long awaited Grafton United strip was unveiled but unfortunately the party was quickly spoiled after Urunga came up with a 4-3 victory at Rushforth Park.

The Sirens were on the back foot from the word go and were down 1-0 after seven mins.

Urunga were by far the aggressor in every aspect of the match and the Sirens were lucky to go into half-time with the same scoreline.

The raiders came out with renewed energy in the second half and slipped another couple of goals in the 48th and 57th minutes to go 3-0 up.

With the points seemingly in the bag the visitors took their foot of the pedal and allowed the Sirens back into the game. Kelsey Pitkin scored in the 63rd and the local girls finally started to play. However, Urunga sealed the result in the 76th minute.

Britt Hegedus scored a double with goals in the 79th and 88th minutes to give the Raiders a late scare as an unlikely draw seemed possible, but the headstart was just too big to overcome. …
