CHELSEA playmaker Eden Hazard was today named the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year, writes James Olley.

The 24-year-old adds the honour voted for by the FWA's 270 members to the Players' Player of the Year award he received last month. In a clean sweep for London's sides, Hazard won 53 per cent of the vote and beat Tottenham striker Harry Kane in second with Blues team-mate John Terry back in Continued on Page 55 Continued from Back Page third place. He has enjoyed a remarkable season at Stamford Bridge, contributing 14 goals and eight assists in 36 Premier League games as Jose Mourinho's side surged to their first title in five years.

Hazard (right) will receive the honour -- first awarded in 1948 -- at a gala dinner in London on May 21.

FWA chairman Andy Dunn said: "The list of truly world class players on the Football Writers' Association roll of honour is a long one and Eden Hazard is a worthy addition.

"A creator, a goalscorer and the hardest of workers, Hazard has been a constant source of threat for the Barclays Premier League champions. …
