Rita's Paintings Will Brighten Up Your Day

RETIRED teacher Rita Readman has clutched a paintbrush for as long as she can remember.

The grandmother-offour, from South Bank, taught for more than 25 years at Redcar Technology College then the Further Education College. And now the former art and design teacher will show her latest project "Bright Lights" at Gallery TS1's summer exhibition next month.

Rita, 72, said: "My inspiration for this series of work has come from the beauty of my home town.

"I like to travel to my favourite places on Teesside; Whitby, Saltburn, Redcar, and take lots of photos. From there I decide what I think would make a nice painting and decide whether it would be best to go with acrylic or ink.

"I decided to go with sharp, bright colours to bring a bit of light and happiness to people who look at them. They seem to be quite popular online."

At a young age Rita taught herself to sew and later studied dress design at Middlesbrough College of Design. …
