Arjo Clearly Punters' Fancy; Limitless Possibilities in Smart Final Field

FASTEST qualifier Fancy Arjo will be the centre of all discussions leading into the Another Bonus Racing Team 1-3 Win Series final at Grafton Greyhound Racing Club tonight. However she will need to be right on her game to repel the challenges of a smart field of rivals.

Prior to last week's heats all eyes were on the impressive Dave Irwin trained youngster who was returning from a successful mission at the Dubbo racing carnival. Question marks surrounded how she would handle the drop in distance from 516 metres back to the 407m of the Grafton sprint.

Undeterred punters were still happy to back Fancy Arjo into a prohibitive $1.30 favourite. For those who took the short odds it was a hard ride as the daughter of Head Bound and Little Bit Fancy was seventh away from the boxes and still spotting the leaders quite a hefty distance in fourth at the first turn. However she stayed pinned to the rail and eventually ran out a 2.25 length winner over Dave's Drinking in 23.03 seconds which was the best of the heats but below her best track and distance time of 22.80s.

Connections and punters alike can expect a similar start for Fancy Arjo and she will need luck at key stages striking the first turn and approaching the home straight. There is no doubting her ability and she is clearly the strongest finisher in the race, however those lining up to support the chaser would probably need better odds than they are likely to receive to part with their hard-earned.

Assuming the favourite finds trouble in the early stages the race gets no easier to assess with a number of chances lying purely and simply on their ability to take the lead prior to the first turn.

The main chances appear to be the Glenda Dart trained Tabasco Kahn which displayed good speed to track around runners to win the second heat in 23. …
