BE IT by road or air, long away trips can test teams with even the best morale.

Ipswich Jets captain Keiron Lander has long since learnt to be careful about who you sit next to, particularly on the way home from a distant away game.

Some players like to sleep, others are hyperactive while some are just grumpy and to be avoided at all costs.

"It's good to sit next to the fellas with some energy," Lander said.

"The depressing ones are the ones who are half asleep and feeling sorry for themselves."

That was usually the youngsters, such as fullback Carlin Anderson, according to the skipper.

On Sunday last weekend, following the Jets' Queensland Cup win in Mackay, Lander was seated next to Chris Walker on the flight home.

The two senior players set the standard at the front of the plane without having to worry about the pesky youngsters down the back.

Smashing moments

THE Force state league basketball teams return to Ipswich stadium for tomorrow's games, eager to see how the new backboard holds up.

Glass in the old one shattered in a million pieces near the end of the previous QBL men's game against Toowoomba.

The drama created plenty of talk with Force head coach Mick Conlon among those knowing how rare it happens.

He recalls seeing a backboard smashed years ago during an NBL pre-season game at the Gold Coast.

"It was impressive then,'' Conlon said.

However, true to being a professional coach, Conlon was disappointed how Toowoomba big man Steve Kluck was allowed to get such a clean dunk away.

"The most embarrassing thing was he's the biggest guy on the floor and he basically ran past each one of our players to do it,'' Conlon said.

"No-one stood in his way. No-one put their body on the line.''

Conlon expects Ipswich fans to see a more committed Force side against Bundaberg in tomorrow's 2pm match at Booval. …
