Man Jailed over Death; Strangler Gets 9 Years for Manslaughter Verdict

AFTER a Kingaroy man strangled a woman in her unit, he was still angry with her.

And he did not show any regret for his actions until he was in front of a judge on Friday, waiting to be sentenced.

That is what Supreme Court Justice Ann Lyons said when sentencing Glen Brian Duggan, 39, to nine years' jail for manslaughter.

A Supreme Court jury found Duggan, from Kingaroy, did not intentionally kill former Tannum Sands woman Renee Todd when he put his hands around her neck.

After about a day of deliberations, the jury returned on Friday and found Duggan guilty of manslaughter.

Shortly after the verdict, Justice Lyons sentenced him to nine years' jail. But before handing down her sentence, she asked Duggan if he wanted to say anything,

As he was standing in the prisoner dock facing her, the defendant said "I'm just very sorry that this all happened".

Duggan said it was something he would live with for the rest of his life and that he had learnt a "big, big lesson". …
