THIS weekend's highlight at Haydock, the Temple Stakes, is a open-looking contest and when pundits refer to races as being 'open' what they really mean is 'anything can win'.

GAMBLING WISDOM I came to the long ago that to five - Damon'. The absence of Sole Power has opened up the market and it would be easy to make a case for every horse in the field. Mind you, it's very seldom you see a horse using a case.The only place to start is with veteran sprinter Kingsgate Native as he is the horse with the best form in the field and subsequently the one I like the least. Robert Cowell's charge has been placed in each of the last four renewals, winning twice. The only negative is his age the horse's not Robert Cowell. Kingsgate Native is 10 now and looked his age when being comfortably beaten by stablemate Goldream in the Palace House Stakes.

At the other end of the age spectrum is Hot Streak, last year's winner at the tender age of three. I very nearly made this horse my selection today, so if he wins I'll be kicking myself.

Kevin Ryan's charge likes the soft going and there is every prospect of rain this weekend - and every weekend. A year older and a year stronger, Hot Streak could very well go on to become the first backto-back winner of the sprint since Mind Games in 1995-96.

conclusion all life is six Runyon My main concern is that Hot Streak has failed to win since in six starts and on that basis looks a little short at around 6-1. There's the inevitable question marks surrounding several at the front of the betting. Goldream probably prefers quicker ground, while G Force has a Group 1 penalty to slow him down. I've decided to plump for DANZENO, who proved a consistent, progressive performer in the latter part of last season culminating with victory in the Chipchase Stakes. …
