Hatzis Powers on in Best Win; Amateurs Race Day a Big Success

HORSE RACING: Dalan Tamblyn, the owner of Hatzis, described the horse's result at the Mackay Amateurs Race Day as its best ever.

Hatzis started as second favourite but powered to victory in race seven, the $20,000 Carlton Mid Cup Open Handicap, ahead of Fields Of Tuscany and Baramul Bullet.

Tamblyn said Hatzis had run some good races before but this was the horse's best.

The seven-year-old gelding is trained by Mackay-based trainer Lyle Wright.

Tamblyn said Hatzis had missed the start for about 10 races but he was still running well ahead of Saturday's race.

"Adrian Coome was able to get him out of the barriers for the first time in maybe 10 starts," he said.

"I knew after 10m that he'd be really, really hard to beat. "It was a beautiful ride, it was probably the ride of the day."

Tamblyn said he had horses down south but Hatzis' win was a special one.
