A Whole Lott of Glamour; What's on Editor GORDON BARR Catches Up with Pixie Lott, Who Will Be Puttin'on the Ritz in Newcastle Next Week

Article excerpt

Byline: Pixie Lott

STRICTLY star Pixie Lott will be putting on her dance shoes again and Puttin' on the Ritz too in Newcastle next week.

The pop star will be teaming up with dance partner Trent Whiddon and fellow Strictly stars Kristina Rihanoff and Robin Windsor for a new show at the Theatre Royal.

Puttin' on the Ritz runs at the Royal from June 2 to 6 and Pixie, who reached the quarter-finals of Strictly 2014 with Trent, can't wait to step into those dancing shoes again.

"I haven't danced since I did Strictly so I am going to have to try and pick it up quickly and remember it somehow," she tells me from Stockholm, where she has been writing new material.

"Trent is so good, hopefully he will just be able to whip me into shape again - I hope.

"I miss dancing, definitely. I really wanted to get an opportunity to do it again. This opportunity came in and I was really upset I couldn't do the Strictly tour because I was writing my album. So this is perfect as I can go back to it again and perform it again and really enjoy myself.

"We are going to do four numbers and then I am going to sing two of my songs, so I get to dance and sing. That's why I was especially attracted to it."

Pixie's debut single Mama Do was released in 2009 and went straight to No 1 in the UK. Her second single, Boys and Girls, also topped the UK chart and when debut album Turn It Up was released later that year it reached No 6 and sold more than 1.5 million copies.

Pixie and Trent will be taking to the stage with Kristina and Robin and a troupe of awardwinning singers and dancers for an evening of Hollywood glamour including music by George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and more.

This show-stopping production is packed with nostalgic favourites including Cheek to Cheek, Alexander's Rag Time Band, Night and Day and I Got Rhythm. …
