Thousands Flock to Show's Opening Day

FROM dogs herding ducks around obstacles to laser shows and fluffy prize chickens the Maleny Agricultural Show's opening day had everything.

Thousands of people flocked into the showgrounds in what was the biggest Friday turnout for the show in years.

People packed themselves into any park they could find and walked hundreds of metres to the showgrounds as designated parking filled before 10am.

Maleny Agricultural Show secretary Lois White said the horse jumpers were "rejoicing" and "ecstatic" at the sunny conditions because the past few opening days had been dampened by rain.

Nothing could dampen prize cattle breeder Steven Ledger's mood as he took home at least 20 champion ribbons for his breed of Illawarra dairy cows yesterday.

Mr Ledger's breed of cows comes from the Riverwood stud bloodline that he has been breeding for 15 years.

But he refused to get ahead of himself, saying "we're just everyday Joes . …
