HUNDREDS of families flocked to Durham to welcome a world-class cycle race to the city.

Crowds lined the streets as the Pearl Izumi Tour Series to see nine teams of professional cyclists, and a guest team battle it out on the streets in the fastpaced race.

British professional road and track racing cyclist Richard Huntley won his first ever individual Pearl Izumi race, as ONE Pro Cycling took home the title.

The team, with Welsh racing cyclist Jon Mould and Polish professional Marcin Bialoblocki, were among the only 10 riders to remain on the lead lap.

The win, which was awarded to the team with the lowest cumulative time from their five riders, came in part thanks to the performance of ONE Pro Cycling's fifth rider George Harper.

Despite being caught up in a crash early on, he managed to break away from final Madison Genesis rider on the road, Mark McNally.

It was the sixth consecutive year the nationwide tour has visited Durham and last year's event was worth PS300,000 to the city's economy. …
