Threads to Connect; Artist Weaves Together Thread of Works for J & J

THE headline artist at the Warwick Art Gallery for Jumpers and Jazz this year has put together her exhibition thread by thread over the past few years.

For Allora artist Dorothy Haig the Thread is My Connection to Other Worlds exhibition incorporates hundreds of items of 2D and 3D pieces from several years of work.

Split into a variety of sections, the retrospective exhibition demonstrates Mrs Haig's ability to use a variety of media and techniques to create artwork that is layered with meaning and reminiscence.

Laced with a Place is a collection for the exhibition of 100 hand-threaded scenes inside 3D window-like boxes.

"They're threaded using recycled mosquito netting - all done by hand and then stretched," she said. "It's fairly time-consuming work."

The exhibition also features a collection of works called Memory Keepers and honours grandmothers as the custodians of collective memory

Gallery director Karina Devine said the exhibition was a must-see during Jumpers and Jazz, with as many as 5000 people expected through the gallery. …
