Wedding Was Just a Dream ... until Now

WITH a three-week-old daughter and money tight, David and Jessica thought a fairytale wedding was just wishful thinking - then they won The Gazette's PS12,000 Dream Wedding.

The bride and groom-to-be can now start planning for their perfect day in the magnificent surroundings of Crathorne Hall.

Guisborough couple David Sargent, 24, and Jessica Hewson, 22, had just celebrated the birth of their daughter Annabelle on May 18.

It was while Jessica, a nursing assistant at Roseberry Park Hospital, was on maternity leave that they decided to try their luck at The Gazette's Dream Wedding competition.

Car body shop owner David said: "We entered last year. We started collecting the tokens but then gave up, thinking we're never going to win it.

"But this year we thought we'll definitely do it.

"It's the first time I've been here, we haven't dared look around because we didn't want to get our hopes up just to be disappointed."

Jessica said: "Getting married is something we've wanted to do for a long time. But with having Annabelle three weeks ago we've barely got the money to get by, never mind get married.

"We were thinking maybe in 10 years time we might be able to afford it.

"But I was on maternity leave so it was something to do.

"I spent a full weekend cutting out all the tokens on a birthing ball."

And when the draw was finally made by The Gazette's editor Chris Styles in the stunning grounds of Crathorne Hall, David and Jessica couldn't believe their ears.

"We were standing at the back and we weren't really listening - we were thinking should we just go?," said Jessica.

"Next thing, they did the draw and I was like, 'I think that might have been us.' ".

"It was a big shock. "We've not got as far as thinking about what kind of wedding we want - we thought it was just wishful thinking. …
