KIM Williams will cut ties with Mackay and cross enemy lines in October to join the Rockhampton Leagues Club CQ Capras.

The Capras announced Williams' appointment as head coach of the Capras for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

In April, former Capras' coach Jason Hetherington, who succeeded John Harbin in 2013, stepped down from his role due to personal reasons.

Capras' assistant coach Lionel Harbin has been at the helm of the squad since his departure.

Williams is in his third year as coach of the Mackay Cutters after taking the northern side to their inaugural premiership in the Intrust Super Cup in 2013.

He is a career coach who has coached in all parts of Australia, including NSW, Western Australia and Victoria.

Before working with the Cutters, Williams was the high performance manager for Victorian Rugby League and was responsible for the management of the Victorian Rugby League representative programs and the Melbourne Storm Academy.

Williams, who is known for being a player's coach and someone who really gets to know the workings and personalities of those he coaches, said he couldn't wait to start his new role.

"After three fantastic seasons at the Cutters, it is time to move on and face some new challenges," Williams said.

"I am looking forward to the prospect of working with a young squad at the Capras and helping them improve over the next two seasons.

"I am even more motivated now to finish on a winning note in season 2015 with the Cutters before heading to Rockhampton to start the next chapter of my coaching career."

Capras' chairman Geoff Murphy said the club was extremely eager to have Williams at the helm.

"We are really excited about Kim coming to the Capras," Murphy said. …
