CBI Director Stepping Down; APPOINTMENTS

THE regional director for the CBI is stepping down from the role to become chief executive officer at leading County Durham manufacturer Ebac.

Dianne Sharp said she has spent an exciting time at the helm of CBI North East, overseeing the business organisation through key political events since she took up the post in April 2014.

Ultimately, however, she has been lured back to the manufacturing sector in which she has more than 20 years' experience.

Mrs Sharp went to the CBI from pharmaceutical company SCM Pharma, where she was managing director for four years, helping to establish the company's US office, and she previously led Bishop Auckland-based Mechetronics where she spearheaded the launch of operations in China and India.

She takes up the role of chief executive officer at Newton Aycliffe-based Ebac on Monday, and said Sarah Glendinning will be ensuring seamless continuity as interim CBI regional director with some additional support from Sarah Green, director of member relations, regions and nations.

Led by chairman John Elliot and managing director Pamela Petty, family-run Ebac is Europe's leading manufacturer of watercoolers and dehumidifers and now manufacturers freezers, following the firm's acquisition of the liquidated assets of Norfrost chest freezers, and a washing machine line will be officially launched in September.

"You can take the girl out of manufacturing but you can't take manufacturing out of the girl," said Mrs Sharp.

"I join Ebac on Monday - we've kept it very quiet because we wanted to make the announcement at the CBI regional conference first.

"It's really exciting for me because, way back when I worked at Mechetronics in Bishop Auckland, we were right opposite Ebac in Newton Aycliffe, so I have known about the company for around 17 years now.

"Ebac is just fantastic. They are a great bunch and I've known John and Pamela for a number of years.

"I'm getting involved at a time that's so exciting with the washing machines lines starting production and the new freezer line going great guns.
