TRINITY Catholic College of Lismore has won its second consecutive NSW Combined Catholic Colleges open boys hockey state championship after a thrilling penalty shoot-out in the final at Grafton.

Team captain Matt Scurr was undoubtedly the player of the carnival, scoring 12 goals including five in one game, with many coming from his lethal "tomahawk" shot.

Cooper Stahl, Hayden Scurr and brothers Sam and Jack Hemsley-Hackett were effective in attack and defence.

Debutant Jeremy Perkins was a late inclusion and handled himself well, scoring a brilliant goal in the opening game.

Goalkeeper Jayden Bryant defended with courage and made several important saves.

Tyler McGrath was outstanding in defence and stopped attack after attack from some skilful opponents.

Youngsters Jamie Brown, Kyle McLean, Oliver Simon, Hugh Harris and Lachlan Gordon also acquitted themselves well.

Trinity played Edmund Rice College of Wollongong in the final, which was dead-locked nil-all after normal time and still after 10 minutes of golden goal extra time. …
