Dylan Not a Small Fry; New to Football and Goalkeeping, This 13-Year-Old Was Plucked out of Regular Play to Kit Up for the Mariners

A YEAR ago, Dylan Fry was sitting watching Germany win the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

One player caught his attention.

It wasn't the leading goal scorer for the team, Thomas Muller, or flashy mid-fielder Toni Kroos, but goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Dylan immediately wanted to play football.

But differently to what most 13 year olds want, he pulled the gloves on and headed straight for the goals.

And the position is as exciting as Dylan imagined.

"I like the action and the pressure that you are required to take on," he said.

Dylan has stood up to the pressure so far, making a mark on the Gladstone competition for two teams.

He started at Clinton, but was soon recruited to play for the Central Queensland Mariners because of his strong play.

It is a big positive for him, playing more games and learning different styles of play so he is comfortable with anything.

The time on the field is making up for the years his teammates and competitors hold in extra experience. …
