WHITBURN put their stamp on proceedings in the North East Division with a 79-run win at Bill Quay.

It took the South Tynesiders to the top of the table and maintained their 100% record.

Ben Markham and Andrew Durham got the table-toppers off to a flyer, both registering half-centuries before retiring.

Then Matthew Downey put the icing on the cake with three fours and two sixes in a rapid 32 not out which saw his team close on 176-4. David Robson then shone with the bat for the home team, becoming the third player in the game to make 50.

However, he could not find any real support as the Quay registered a subdued 97-4 in the run chase.

While the runs were flowing at the Quay, not a single player managed to make it to double figures at Wearmouth where Boldon were shot out for 19 in 12 overs - eight of those runs being extras.

Lewis Smillie was chief executioner with five wickets for two runs, Dan Simpson supporting with 2-1. Wearmouth then contrived to lose four wickets, including two run-outs, before crossing the winning line in the sixth over. …
