Pilley Up for Marathon Pedal; National Selection for In-Form Yamba Mountain Biker

YAMBA mountain biker Morgan Pilley continues his fine form after last month's WEMBO European 24 Solo victory. Morgan has been selected to represent Australia at the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in Selva Val Gardena-Dolomites, Italy, on June 27.

His form leading into tackling the tough 87km course in the Dolomites couldn't be better, after he had another solo victory last weekend at the Bacocos six-hour.

"I had a great (muddy) hit out," he said. "Once again I enjoyed fantastic support from my team Santa Marinella ... We're packing the car and heading north for the Marathon Worlds ... I cant wait to wear the national kit again."

Our Travelling White's were again tripping the countryside hitting the trails of Queensland for race three of the Queensland Mountain Biking Nomad Sunshine Series, held on the cold but sunny Gold Coast.

The Hinze Dam course is a 5.5km loop with a steep ascent through rainforest following several switchbacks leading up to the half-way point and then a descent to the finish.

Henry White rode in the Under-15 category in which a large number of riders jostled for position at the start line. Henry settled back in the pack but made his way through the field settling into fifth place by the end of the first lap. The fight for fifth place was a close battle on the second lap as both riders swapped positions several times and crossed the line with only 0.1 of a second separating with Henry taking sixth place.

Bridie White rode in Under-13 girls who were given 30 minutes to complete a technical 2.5km lap as many times as possible. Bridie started well and settled into second, riding hard to chase down the leader. They brought the crowd to their feet as they completed the first lap and continued to battle for the lead through the race with Bridie finally taking home the silver medal, vowing to train even harder for the next round. …
