Gallstones Stolen for Own Use

A HUMAN resources manager has been found guilty of stealing almost $4500 worth of gallstones from a Darling Downs abattoir.

Dean Raymond Alfred Eames, 38, yesterday pleaded guilty in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court to stealing 414.2g of gallstones over a six month period earlier this year.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Des Neijens said CCTV footage given to police showed Eames pocketing the gallstones over a period of six months.

A search of Eames' Cranley home by the Toowoomba Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squad on May 21 recovered the items.

Eames denied the offence when questioned by police, but admitted to his employer on May 22 he had taken the stones.

He then admitted the offence to police on May 25.

Solicitor Brad Skuse said his client had lost his job of 20 years, having worked his way up from the kill floor where he started when he was 18.

He said that although his client did not realise the gallstones' value, he did not contest the value submitted to the court or deny taking them. …
