Ned's Happy to Call the Shots

AUSSIE RULES: Known as 'Ned', Andrew Kelly is out to get the bad guys.

Well, "bad" guys on the field anyway.

Kelly has taken on the role as umpiring co-ordinator for AFL Mackay.

"I'm happy to be on board," he said.

"I recognised that there was a requirement for co-ordination.

"The umpire stocks are low and I have the experience and I'm looking forward to it."

AFL Queensland regional manager Jeff Neumann said the appointment was significant.

"It's been an ongoing search for a co-ordinator," he said. "Ned was someone we identified in the umpiring ranks and he put his hand up for the role.

"He's passionate about it and keen to drive it further.

"It's good to have someone of Ned's knowledge and experience in the role."

Victorian Kelly said a big part of being a good umpire was respect.

"Having played footy, knowing the nuances of the game (helps)," he said. …
