TENNIS: Australia will have its biggest contingent in 20 years when action gets under way at Wimbledon on Monday.

With former junior world No.1 Luke Saville and journeymen John Millman and John-Patrick Smith surviving qualifying, 11 men and five women have made the main draw, the most since 1995 when former Aussie stars Pat Cash and Wally Masur were still playing.

For the second year running, Saville secured his place after being down a match point in his final qualifying match. He dropped the first two sets to Italy's Luca Vanni, but won through 4-6 4-6 6-3 7-6 6-4.

"I saved one match point last year as well, would you believe it ... that's pretty scary," the 2011 junior Wimbledon champion said.

"This is going to be special. To get in the main draw to play at the All England Club again is a huge honour."

As well as having his own scare, Saville was concerned after learning Russian-born girlfriend Daria Gavrilova, who will play under the Australian flag at the tournament, had withdrawn from her quarter- final against American Sloane Stephens at Eastbourne with an abdominal injury. …
